Chief Business Development Officer
Southern Power
Hank Adams serves as Chief Business Development Officer for Southern Power. He is responsible for leading the company’s business development strategy, including our focus on new large load customer opportunities with natural gas, storage and renewable solutions. This includes coordinating unregulated activities for new large load customers across the country for PowerSecure, Southern Telecom and National Accounts. He will also lead the Partnership and Competitive Intelligence team supporting Southern Power’s numerous partnerships and engaging with internal and external stakeholders to identify industry issues.
Prior to this role, he served as senior vice president of Customer Solutions and Corporate Development for Southern Company. In this role, he was responsible for delivering growth, customer solutions and system collaboration across all Southern Company’s gas and electric subsidiaries. He oversaw National Accounts and Federal Energy Services and teams that managed Southern Company’s national corporate energy users and federal government customers. He also led the Planning and Regulatory support team that develops Southern Company’s forecasted energy demand and, specifically, the New Ventures organization that manages the company’s founding investment in Energy Impact Partners, a $3 billion utility-backed venture capital fund dedicated to accelerating the energy transition.
Adams also served as vice president of Origination and Acquisitions for Southern Power. In this role, he led business development efforts including acquisitions for 2+ GW of renewable assets totaling $3B+ in capex and recontracting of 2.5 GWs of natural gas assets. Prior to Southern Power, Adams served in various external affairs roles at Georgia Power including area manager, external affairs manager and assistant to the executive vice president of external affairs and nuclear development.
He currently serves on the board for Alliance for Transportation Electrification and is a former board member of the California Energy Storage Association. In the community, he has serves on several committees and boards including Boys and Girls Club of Central Alabama and Rome/Floyd County Communities in Schools.
Adams earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech and MBA from Auburn University.
