Chris Cummiskey is chairman and CEO of Southern Company’s unregulated commercial subsidiaries Southern Power, a 12 GW U.S. wholesale energy provider, and PowerSecure, the nation’s leading distributed energy innovation company that has developed, installed, managed and serviced 2+ GW of microgrid capacity at more than 2,100 sites. Cummiskey also oversees Southern Company’s unregulated communications businesses, including Southern Linc, which provides digital wireless communications, as well as Southern Telecom, which offers fiber optics services to customers.

In addition to his chief commercial officer role leading Southern Company’s unregulated subsidiaries, Cummiskey also serves as chairman, president and CEO of Southern Company Services (SCS), the wholly-owned system service company. As part of his SCS duties, Cummiskey oversees Southern Company’s supply chain management group, which supports the company’s regulated electric, gas, nuclear and unregulated subsidiaries. Cummiskey also oversees Southern Company’s new ventures organization managing the company’s founding investment in Energy Impact Partners, a $3 billion utility-backed venture capital fund dedicated to accelerating the energy transition.

Before becoming chief commercial officer and chairman and CEO of SCS, Cummiskey served as executive vice president of external affairs and nuclear development for Georgia Power. In this role, he led Georgia Power’s policies and activities in governmental and regulatory affairs, community and economic development, corporate communication, environmental affairs and nuclear development, including the Plant Vogtle project expansion.

Cummiskey started his career with Southern Company, working as an energy trader for Southern Company Energy Management. Following that, Cummiskey served as a manager and director of energy and gas derivatives trading for companies including RWE Americas, Mirant and Mieco. He also served as commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development, state director for U.S. Sen. Johnny Isakson and chief of staff for the speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives.

Cummiskey is a member of Rotary Club of Atlanta and Trinity Presbyterian Church as well as trustee of the Woodruff Arts Center. He is a past member of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, the University of Georgia Athletics Board, the Georgia Ports Authority Board, Georgia World Congress Center and the Georgia Board of Trustees for the Nature Conservancy.

Cummiskey earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Georgia. He and his wife, Rebecca, reside in Atlanta with their two children, Addison, and Jack.
