Parker Carpenter serves as a business development manager within Southern Power’s National Markets Origination team, where he supports the identification, development and execution of renewable and natural gas generation opportunities across the United States. His role focuses on originating and negotiating wholesale power contracts, advancing development initiatives and partnering with internal and external stakeholders to support Southern Power’s growth strategy.
Parker joined Southern Company in 2014 and has held a series of roles across Technical Shared Services, Alabama Power Generation, Capacity Procurement and Resource Planning. His experience includes supporting large-scale environmental and capital projects, managing major plant outages and turbine upgrades, leading capacity RFPs and asset acquisition efforts, negotiating power purchase agreements and performing economic and production cost modeling to inform generation strategy. Most recently, Parker served as a business development principal in the New Ventures organization, where he led evaluation of emerging technologies, structured pilot projects and partnered across Power Delivery and Generation to advance innovation efforts aligned with long-term grid and customer needs.
Parker earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Auburn University and an MBA with a concentration in finance from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
Parker and his wife, Jennifer, live in Birmingham, AL with their three children.
Where do you call home? I live in Birmingham, AL.
What are your hobbies? I like anything on the water, I love to snow ski and I’ve recently started playing golf regularly.
What’s the best vacation you’ve taken? Anytime I get to ski out west is a great vacation.
Favorite food? My favorite food would be anything in the Asian cuisine (Japanese, Indian, Chinese, Thai, etc.).
If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring? A hammock, The Office (full series) and a Bible.

What is the last book you read? Elevation by Stephen King.
