Kelli Higgins serves as a business development associate for Southern Power, supporting commercial origination across the company’s Southeast markets. In her role, Kelli focuses on developing solutions to meet the capacity and energy needs of investor‑owned utilities, electric membership cooperatives and municipal customers. She supports Southern Power’s growth strategy through the development of new generating assets, the remarketing of existing facilities and the cultivation of strong long‑term customer relationships.
Kelli began her career with Alabama Power Company in 2007 as an intern in Treasury Services. She joined the team full-time in 2009 as a financial analyst. In this role, she led cross-functional teams in the development of Alabama Power’s Rating Agency Presentation, evaluated the economic viability of projects, served as lead analyst for security issuances, provided oversight to the company’s four investment trust funds and contributed to rate review hearings. In 2016, she transitioned to Southern Company Service’s Financial and Contract Services where she served as a team leader responsible for the monthly settlement of Wholesale Power Contracts for Alabama Power, Georgia Power, Mississippi Power, Southern Power and formerly Gulf Power. Most recently, Kelli served as a Wholesale Marketing Analyst in Southern Power’s Commercial Optimization, Trading and Transmission organization where she was responsible for ensuring accurate profitability reporting and providing support for contractual obligations of assets within the VACAR region of the Commercial Markets Team.
Kelli received a bachelor's degree in commerce and business administration from The University of Alabama with a focus in Finance and a minor in Economics. She resides in Hoover with her husband and two children.

Where do you call home? A native of Belgreen, AL, I have called Hoover home for almost 20 years.
What are your hobbies? I love to read biographies and autobiographies, but finding the time with two young children is difficult!
What’s the best vacation you’ve taken? Maui and Kaua, Hawaii
Favorite food. Reese’s seasonal shapes (eggs, hearts, pumpkins, Christmas trees)
If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring? Sunscreen, chocolate and an umbrella -- I’d be set!
Tell us something we might not know about you. I grew up on a farm with registered Black Angus cattle. Our freezer was stocked with frozen beef so I grew up eating steak every weekend and thought everyone else did too!
What is the last book you read? “Finding Me” by Viola Davis
Tell us something on your bucket list. Visting the Royal Family at Buckingham Palace in London, England.
What is the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? Helping those who’ve always had my back and those in need.
What is your biggest pet peeve? Rushing to the front of the plane as soon as it lands.
Do you have a hidden talent? I play piano, but I do not like an audience!
