Stephen Stepkoski serves as a business development manager at Southern Power, where he leads commercial origination efforts across the Southeast. His role involves developing and executing wholesale power contracts and advancing long-term customer relationships to support Southern Power’s growth strategy in the Southeast markets.
Stephen brings more than 25 years of experience in wholesale power markets, with deep expertise in long-term contract structuring, capacity transactions and energy trading. Prior to joining Southern Power, he held origination leadership roles at Southern Wholesale Energy, where he led efforts across Alabama Power, Georgia Power and Mississippi Power. During that time, he developed innovative contract structures to address evolving industry needs, including renewable integration and energy storage solutions.
Previously, Stephen served as term trading manager in Commercial Operations at Southern Company, where he led a team responsible for optimizing generating assets across the system. In that role, he developed forward market strategies across power, transmission, and natural gas markets to enhance portfolio value and asset performance.
Earlier in his career, Stephen held roles as scheduling supervisor and term trader, supporting portfolio optimization, contract administration and strategic planning efforts.
Stephen earned a bachelor's degree in environmental economics and management from the University of Georgia.
Stephen and his wife, Ashley, live in Birmingham, Alabama (Oak Mountain area) with their three children — Ava, Lech and Elsie. In his free time, he enjoys traveling, hiking, music and coffee.

Where do you call home? I grew up in Somers,NY but call Birmingham AL (Oak Mountain) home.
What are your hobbies? Travel, hiking, weightlifting, live music and coffee.
What’s the best vacation you’ve taken? Maui with the Family.
Favorite food?Tie between a filet and New York pizza.
If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring? Large Sailboat, Crossbow, Satellite phone – Get me off this island.
Tell us something we might not know about you. I played rugby for the University of Georgia – Go Dawgs!!
What is the last book you read? Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir.
Tell us something on your bucket list. Family vacation to the motherland – Poland.
What is the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? Mid-Century ranch on a vineyard in California.
What is your biggest pet peeve? When people don’t understand how to use the passing lane.
Do you have a hidden talent? Freestyle battle rapping but I like keeping it hidden.
What are you currently watching? Atlanta Braves or whatever my family is watching.
