Currently, Southern Power’s generation portfolio consists of wind, natural gas, solar, battery storage and fuel cells. In total, the company’s portfolio consists of 55 generating assets capable of delivering more than 12,840 MW of clean, safe, reliable and affordable wholesale generation in every time zone. Southern Power’s solar portfolio consists of 30 solar plants in operation and 15 wind facilities.

Southern Power operates and maintains its generating assets through the technology in its remote operations center (ROC). In the ROC, dedicated experts closely monitor and operate our sites 24/7. The team works closely with Southern Power’s trading and optimization team to convert data from the ROC and translate it into information to help make strategic decisions and recommendations for our customers.

Southern Power was formed in 2001 to support Southern Company in the wholesale market. In 2009, Southern Power's portfolio consisted of eight natural gas plants totaling 7,880 MW in four states. Since 2009, Southern Power has added more than 3,500 megawatts (MW) across 50 facilities. Today, the company continues to strategically grow its business through the acquisition and development of clean energy solutions.
