Jason Wallace

Business Development Manager

Southern Power

Jason Wallace serves as a business development manager at Southern Power. As a business development manager, Jason is focused on delivering Southern Power’s long-term growth strategy through the acquisitions of generating facilities across the contiguous United States. He is focused on renewable, storage and natural gas generators.

“The energy industry is constantly evolving. We’re seeing that now as the concentration of renewable resources increases across the US. As a result of the increase and the intermittency accompanying it, you’re seeing the industry having to adapt and innovate. Being in acquisitions, I am at the forefront - analyzing, learning and developing solutions that meet Southern Power’s risk profile. It’s a challenge, but one of the reasons I love Southern Power is we have a talented, driven team that is up for the task.”

Jason joined Southern Power in 2007 as an analyst on the project analysis team evaluating and pricing new build natural gas generation opportunities. Following this position, Jason held other analyst roles at Southern Power, Southern Company and Alabama Power. Jason returned to Southern Power in 2014 to lead the Southern Power planning team within the finance organization. He was then named the assistant to the president and CEO of Southern Power, where he partnered with senior business leaders to support and implement the CEO’s vision and initiatives. Following this position, Jason served as the financial structuring manager for Southern Power and led efforts to secure more than $1B in tax equity investments for its renewable portfolio. Most recently, Jason served as the risk manager for Southern Company’s operations and trading floor.

Jason holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Alabama and an MBA from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

A native of Berry, Alabama, Jason now lives in Vestavia Hills with his wife, Farris and children, Kathryn and Connor. When not working, Jason is likely at an athletic facility coaching youth sports. Jason and his family are avid baseball fans and make an annual visit to one of the MLB Spring Training locations in Florida or Arizona.

Where do you call home? I grew up in Berry, Alabama, but now call Birmingham home as I have lived in the metro area for 18 years.

What is your current role at Southern Power? I am a business development manager focused on the acquisition of assets across the contiguous U.S.

What are your hobbies? Our kids really keep us busy with their activities, as a result coaching them has become a hobby! When we’re not at a ballfield, I enjoy being on the water either boating or fishing.

What’s the best vacation you’ve taken? They are all great! But I would have to say the most recent one had the right balance of relaxation and activity. We went spent a few days at Disney, then attended spring training baseball games and finished the week on the beach in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Favorite food. My palate has not changed much since I was a child, so I’ll go with pizza.

If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring? If a boat is an option that would be my first choice. If not, practically, I would need water or someway to desalinate the ocean water, a mirror or flint to start a fire and a fishing net.

Tell us something we might not know about you. I’ve won a few chess tournaments. This was in high school, so I’m mostly likely terrible now.

What is the last book you read? Mindset by Carol Dweck – great read on how to engage, motivate yourself and others in professional, sports or parenting settings.

Tell us something on your bucket list. To visit every MLB stadium

What is the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? A new boat

What is your biggest pet peeve? Negative attitudes

Do you have a hidden talent? Yes…and it will remain so 😊.
