Southern Power

Hank serves as Southern Power’s Vice President of Origination and Acquisition. In this role, he leads the business development team, which includes origination of new power supply agreements as well as the acquisition of assets that have long-term power purchase agreements in place.

“Our team works with an array of counterparts and stakeholders, including developers looking to sell projects, load serving entities that are looking to procure energy, and commercial and industrial customers looking for renewable energy and credits.”

Hank joined Southern Power in 2007 as an engineer in Generation Development supporting RFP responses and major equipment negotiations. He served as Instrument and Controls Team Leader at Plant Stanton and Operations and Maintenance Manager at Plant Rowan before returning to Birmingham in 2012 as Assistant to Southern Power’s President and CEO. In 2013, Hank joined Georgia Power as External Affairs Manager of the Northwest Region. In 2014, he joined the Northeast Region as Area Manager of Winder & Jefferson. Hank went on to serve as Assistant to Georgia Power’s Executive Vice President of External Affairs before being named Manager of Wind Acquisitions at Southern Power in April 2016. Prior to joining Southern Company, Hank spent five years at Southwire Company overseeing the operations of a facility in Carrollton, Ga.

Southern Power has a business development presence in all regional transmission organizations in the lower 48 states. Hank has led the Southern Power business development team in many first-of-their-kind transactions, including a joint development agreement with Renewable Energy Systems Americas, Inc., a utility-scale energy storage investment and a utility-scale fuel cell investment.

Hank graduated with a bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Georgia Tech and a Master of Business Administration from Auburn University.

A native of Waynesboro, Ga., Hank now lives in Birmingham with his wife and two kids Henry and Hines. He loves to get outside to fish, golf and play tennis with the family. During the fall, Hank can be found cheering on a variety of southeastern football teams including Georgia Tech, Auburn and the University of Georgia. Hank and his family love to travel and try to explore new places every year.

Where do you call home? I was born in Brunswick, Ga., and raised in Waynesboro, Ga., under the cooling towers of Plant Vogtle.

What is your current role at Southern Power? I am the Vice President of Origination and Acquisitions.

What are your hobbies? I love golf, hunting, fitness (but not enough) and traveling with the family.

What’s the best vacation you’ve taken? My favorite vacation to date has been a trip to Maui.

Favorite food. My favorite food is a nice, medium-rare filet.

If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring? I would bring a water purifier, a fishing rod and a lighter.

Tell us something we might not know about you. I have a plumbing license in the state of Georgia.

What is the last book you read? In all fairness, the last book I listened to was Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson.

Tell us something on your bucket list. Play golf at the Old Course in Scotland.

What is the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? I would buy services from a good financial advisor.

What is your biggest pet peeve? A lack of effort is my biggest pet peeve.

Do you have a hidden talent? I am a pool shark.

What are you currently watching on Netflix? Right now, I’m watching “Longmire”.
