Jaysen serves as the head of origination for Southern Power in the ERCOT, SPP, MISO, PJM and Northeast markets, executing Southern Power’s growth strategy through the acquisition of new generating assets.

“Right now, the energy industry is full of change. And, it’s great to have the opportunity to build relationships with people in this industry. In my job, I’m constantly working to know our customers and search for new opportunities to market our developments.”

Before joining Southern Power’s business development team, Jaysen was the sales director over the Southeast and Midwest at Liberty Utilities in Georgia. Prior to that role, Jaysen served as a business development manager over regional sales, indirect sales and major accounts for Constellation out of Baltimore, Md.

Jaysen graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business and sports management before earning his Master of Business Administration at Mount St. Mary’s University in Maryland.

A native of Washington, D.C., Jaysen now resides in Birmingham, Alabama, where he lives with his girlfriend, Megan, and new puppy, Sarge.

Where do you call home? I grew up in southwest Washington, D.C., and Arlington. I miss certain parts of the big city.

What is your current role at Southern Power? I am a Business Development Manager, executing Southern Power’s growth strategy through the acquisition of new generating assets across the central region, including the ERCOT and SPP markets.

Describe your energy market in three words. Evolving, innovative and creative.

Tell us something on your bucket list. I would love to see the Washington Redskins play a game in every major stadium.

If you were stuck on an island, what three things would you bring? Definitely matches. Then either machete or a spear and some bug spray.

What’s your favorite food? Favorite food ever: French fries. But, I also love fresh seafood, especially crab.

Tell us something we might not know about you. I have a twin sister and we’re opposites. Everyone always asks if we have that twin connection. She’s sure we do, but I’m still on the fence.

What is the last book you read? The last books I read where the classics: “Of Mice and Men”, “The Great Gatsby” and “To Kill a Mocking Bird.” It’s been awhile since I’ve read them, but they’re the last on my list.

What is the first thing you’d buy if you won the lottery? It’s funny because I’m not sure what I would buy myself, but I would make sure my mom is taken care of, as well as my sister and two brothers.

What’s the best vacation you’ve taken? Two years ago, my girlfriend, Megan, won a trip to Ireland. We spent two weeks and visited Ireland, London and Paris. I got to play golf where they held the Irish Open, toured the Southern tip of Ireland and Dublin. We also got to see a Chelsea soccer game.

What are you currently watching on Netflix? Right now, I’m watching “The Spy” and “House of Cards”, but I’m way behind on “House of Cards.”
